I’m sure if you’re like me you’ve seen enough morning television & read enough lifestyle magazines that talk about the dangers of deodorants sold to the masses to scare you to the natural products aisle. Recently, I’ve tried really hard to adopt healthy pit practices, but it’s been a struggle, I get sweaty just thinking about it.
Typically in the natural products aisle you’ll find deodorants that lack ingredients like aluminum, talc & artificial fragrances (read: cancer causing ingredients! Yikes!) that are just not good for us in the long run. In my experiences, these cancer-causing-ingredient-free deodorants will also stink (pun intended) & don’t work. I’ve rocked the crystal rock deodorant that much of the hippy dippy, tree hugging world seems to love. It’s a bit weird, you have to wet your armpit first & then rub this huge salt chunk on your pit. I have to say I am pretty relieved it didn’t work for me. I tried a small batch of natural brands that were made with essential natural oils from pretty flowers that worked in keeping me from stinking but made the skin on my armpit peel off – yeah not ideal. Then (like Goldie Locks) I came across Truly’s Natural Deodorant (read: the answer to my prayers).
Truly’s Natural Deodorant comes in a small retro-chic tub that is a foreign concept to most, but stay with me here. I actually like it better than the standard stick or spray. I seem to have much more control over smoothing on deodorant cream with my fingers than I have with gliding a stick on what I think is my armpit & then later discover is my silk dress (#fail). Truly’s Natural Deodorant is made without: aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens, triclosan, steareth-n, phthalates or talc. That’s right all you’ll find in this deodorant is organic coconut oil, powdered sugar (sugar, cornstarch), baking soda, beeswax. Sounds good enough to eat right? I thought so too, so I gave it a taste – not too shabby. But enough about how good it tastes, it works. It works! Praise whoever you thank worldly things for. I usually used to keep extra deodorant in my bag in case for afternoon-my-deodorant-is-no-longer-working-stink. I am happy to report that this is a thing of the past. When this product hit our office I was quick to jump at the guinea pig challenge. I slathered some on in the morning before work, hit a trampoline yoga class après work, didn’t even shower that night (don’t judge) et voila, I still smelled good-enough-to-eat-great.
What’s better? You can pick it up at your next trip to Shobha. I’m so happy to welcome Truly’s Natural Deodorant to all Shobha locations & my medicine cabinet.
